A Birthday Party

Our K1 children were excited upon learning that they were going to have a class birthday party. They brought in mock presents which their parents had helped to wrap. On the day of the party the children were given the opportunity to decide how they would like to arrange the table.

Mao Jia Ning is deciding where to best place the present on the table.

Adora is asking her friend if she should place the titbits there. Qi Xuan is satisfied placing her titbits. Cheng Yi is checking if the table cloth is straight.

A lot of decision making was involved while children arranged everything on the table. They discussed with their friends and then looked at it to see if it was appropriately done.

At last the table was ready and it was time for the party to begin. Children were ready and eagerly waiting for someone to blow the candles. Zul was asking Adora if she wanted to volunteer. Children were asked for a representative to blow the candle. They voted for Adora.

One, two, three. blow! All the children joined in to blow the candle. Some were standing too behind to be in the picture. After the blowing of the candles children exchanged presents which they had brought. They learnt the proper way of receiving presents e.g. they have to say ‘Thank you.’

Zul, giving present to Arvin.

Children queued up to take their helping of the food that they had brought for the party. They had the choice to take the amount and the type of food they wanted. Children learnt to take turns and wait patiently.

Children were enjoying their party. Haqish was asking if he could take a second helping. Min and Xing Meng were too engrossed eating.

During the whole celebration of this party, children were given the opportunity for decision making, turn taking, and social etiquette.
