Go..Go..Go.. Ale, Ale, Ale!
Does the cheering sound familiar to you? It is World Cup Time! The children were introduced to the sports ‘Soccer’ for our Kids-in-Charge event in June. Various activities were conducted and given for them throughout the month of June. They were taught on the YOG cheer and they sang during the morning workout.
We created a mini exhibition on soccer for our class. Children's artwork were being displayed in the classroom and block play turned into a soccer pitch for the children to experience playing soccer using figurines. We also invited the coach league to come into the classroom to give the children talks about soccer and demonstrated to the children on the techniques to play soccer at the neighbourhood void deck.
Zane, Ivalyn, Zul and Chloe volunteered to show
the actions when singing the YOG song.
Chloe chose orange to paint her trophy. She had the real trophy
in front of her to guide her in making the trophy.
These children were busy tearing and pasting the black construction
paper to make the trophies stand.
Nicholas and Sky were painting the mahjong paper to symbolise the
soccer pitch for their brainstorm web while the rest watched and waited for their turn to paint.
They have to draw what they knew about soccer.
Phyusin wrote, “Kick the ball” while Qi Xuan wrote, “7 players in a team” in their master piece.
This is how it looked after all the children had finished doing their master piece for their brainstorm web.
Besides knowing about soccer, they were given a sketch of Merly and Lyo to colour. Min and Asri followed exactly how they should colour the Merly, mascot of the YOG.
Here was where we displayed our Lyo and Merly. There were also flags of the different countries like Brazil, Spain, Australia that were created by the children.
His name is Uncle Din. Before we went to the void deck to play, he invited a few of the children to show him how to kick the ball in the classroom.
He asked some questions to the children at the block play like, “What is the person called that plays soccer”, “Who blows the whistle”. The children answered spontaneously and participated actively. The coach joked with them and they laughed throughout the session.
The coach brought along his team players to help teach the children.
They were asked to shake hands with his players. Cheng Yi went to the players and shook hands with them.
The coach called a few children to try and hit the ball using their heads.
Cheng Yi was able to hit the ball twice.
He positioned himself correctly and was praised by the coach.
Even Chloe was brave enough to hit the ball!
The children watched the coach demonstrated the right way to hit the ball and how soccer game should be played before they were asked to play.
The children were divided into groups to play with the team players. After all the groups had played, the winner of the groups will compete with the coach and the team players.
Alex’s group was the winner and they were enthusiastic to win.
Alex was going towards the coach to get the ball
while the rest of his team mates waited for the ball to pass to them.
The rest of the children cheered for them.
At the end of the day, the children really enjoyed the session with the coach even though they were exhausted and tired. Even the children asked, “When can we play soccer again?” It was a fun and enriching experience for the children.
