In the month of May, our K1 children about soft and hard parts of the body. They learnt about bones, muscles and skin. A tooth is one of the hard parts and as an extension to the lesson a dentist was invited to tell children how to take care of their teeth.
Children are waiting patiently to listen to the dentist. ‘That looks like the teeth we have in our clinic,’ Nicholas is whispering to Cheng Yi.

"This is a sad tooth. It was not taken care of." The dentist explained through the story session how to have good teeth habits. Brush at least twice a day: in the morning and after breakfast, you will tend to be in a hurry, so do a THOROUGH job in the evening, taking the time to use floss and interdental brushes for those important between-the-teeth areas. This comprehensive cleaning has to be done at least once in a 24 hour period to prevent future problems with gum disease. The dentist also explained that children must be careful about what they eat and drink. Sugar feeds the bacteria in the mouth, which then excrete substances that break down tooth enamel.
"This is called the back teeth." Children were told the parts of the teeth, the back, the side and the front teeth.
"This is how you brush your teeth!"
• Brush in circles and use short back–and–forth strokes.
• Take time to brush gently along the gum line.
• Don't forget to brush your tongue.
• Change your toothbrush at least every 3 months.

Looking Bright and Beautiful
Looking at me, looking at you.
Looking bright and beautiful.
Wonderful teeth, wonderful smile,
It’s for me and you!
Eating my food, chewing with fun.
Oh, I love my breakfast bun!
Biting my fruit, crunchy and good.
Happy when I’m done!
Chorus
Strong and healthy are my teeth.
Makes me feel so good.
Happy, smiling all the way.
Brightens up my day…
Looking at me, looking at you.
Looking bright and beautiful.
Brushing my teeth, morning and night.
Easy thing to do!
Chorus
Strong and healthy are my teeth.
Makes me feel so good.
Happy, smiling all the way.
Brightens up my day…
Looking at me, looking at you.
Bright and beautiful.
